The film opened in November 2000 and was a hit, earning more than $125 million in the U.S., and a worldwide total of more than $264 million. The sequel, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, opened in June 2003 and was a box-office hit again, earning more than $100 million in the U.S., and a worldwide total of more than $259 million. In between the two films, Liu starred with Antonio Banderas in Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever, a critical and box office failure.

Liu next played O-Ren Ishii, one of the major villains in Quentin Tarantino's 2003 film, Kill Bill. She won an MTV Movie Award for "Best Movie Villain" for the part. Subsequently, Liu appeared on several episodes of Joey with Matt LeBlanc, who played her love interest in the Charlie's Angels movies. She also had smaller roles as Kitty Baxter in the film Chicago, and as a psychologist opposite Keira Knightley in the thriller Domino. Cameron Michelle Diaz is a Golden Globe-, BAFTA- and SAG-Award nominated American actress and former model. As of 2008, Forbes claims Diaz to have earned $50 million last year, after receiving this salary for What Happens in Vegas making her the highest paid actress and Hispanic in Hollywood.

Diaz was born in San Diego, California, the daughter of Billie (née Early), an import-export agent, and the late Emilio Diaz, who worked for UNOCAL a California oil company as a Field Gauger and in the pipeline department for twenty plus years until he retired in 1998. Her father is a second-generation Cuban American and her mother is of English, German and Cherokee Native American ancestry. She has one older sister, Chimene (born 1970). She attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School at the same time as rapper Snoop Dogg.

At 16 she began her career as a fashion model. Diaz signed with top modeling agency Elite Model Management. After graduating from high school, she went to work in Japan and met video director Carlo de la Torre. On her return to America, she moved in with him. For the next few years, her modeling took her around the world, working for contracts with major companies. She modelled for designers such as Calvin Klein and Levi's. At 21, Diaz auditioned for The Mask. Even though she had no previous acting experience, after obtaining the lead female role, she immediately started acting lessons. Barbie also had a singing career prior to her acting career. She was in a duo group called "S.O.S." (Sisters of Shu) with her sister Dee Hsu. Elizabeth is spirited and independent-minded character. Throughout the three films, she transforms from a modest and well-mannered lady into a true and courageous pirate. Elizabeth has always been fascinated by piracy and life at sea, but she is also revolted by pirates' aggressive, wild nature, especially when she meets Captain Jack Sparrow, who made his escape from Port Royal at her expense. However, she was grateful to him for saving her life and unsuccessfully attempted to prevent his arrest. Even after becoming a pirate, she retains her sense of propriety, as well as her loyalty and compassion for loved ones (namely Will Turner, her father, and later, Jack Sparrow).

Elizabeth easily adapted to piracy, although it is unknown if she remained a pirate following the events in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. She learned swordsmanship from her (at the time) fiancee, Will Turner. She is able to defend herself against multiple opponents and can fight using two swords simultaneously. Elizabeth has natural leadership abilities, quickly learned seamanship, and displays a natural talent for battle strategy, having devised defensive and offensive maneuvers against her opponents. It should be noted that she is the only character in the film to use a Chinese Jian as her weapon of choice, which is ironic considering the setting it was used in; the Jian, known as the most civilized and elegant of all Chinese weapons, ended up being a pirate's weapon.

Princess Cinderella

Cinderella is the much-loved only child of a widowed aristocrat. After deciding that his beloved daughter needs a mother's care, Cinderella's father marries a proud and haughty woman named Lady Tremaine. She too has been married before, and has two daughters by her first marriage, Anastasia and Drizella, who are just Cinderella's age. Plain and socially awkward, these "Ugly Stepsisters" are bitterly envious of the beautiful and charming Cinderella.

The family lives in happiness for several years, until the untimely death of Cinderella's father. After that, Lady Tremaine's true nature is revealed, and she and her spiteful daughters take over the estate, and begin to abuse and maltreat Cinderella, envious of her beauty. She is forced into housekeeping responsibilities and made to wait upon her jealous stepsisters like a maid. As Cinderella blossoms into a beautiful young woman who is kind despite her hardships, she befriends the animals living in the barn, including Bruno the Bloodhound, Major the horse, and many of the mice and birds who live in and around the chateau. Cinderella finds a mouse inside a trap, releases him, and names him Octavius, "Gus" for short. She is also friends with a mouse named Jacques ("Jaq" for short), the leader of a mouse-pack.

At the royal palace, the King is angry that his son does not intend to marry. The King is determined to see grandchildren, so he and the Duke organize a ball for the Prince in an effort to cause his son to fall in love and marry, with every eligible maiden in the kingdom ordered to attend.

When the invitation to the ball arrives, Cinderella asks her stepmother if she can attend. Her stepmother tells her she may go to the ball, if she finishes her work and can find a suitable gown. To consume her time, her stepmother sets Cinderella with a mountain of chores. Her mouse friends Jaq and Gus use Cinderella's stepsister's discarded sash and beads to fix an old gown that belonged to Cinderella's mother. When Cinderella wears her dress before the ball, Lady Tremaine points out her daughters' beads and sash, and the sisters tear the gown to shreds, leaving Cinderella to run to the back of the garden in tears while her stepfamily attends the royal ball.

Cinderella's Fairy Godmother appears to her in the garden, and transforms her appearance for the ball. She transforms the mice into horses, Bruno the dog into a footman, Major the horse into a coachman, a pumpkin into the carriage, and transforms her torn dress into a beautiful blue dress with glass slippers. Cinderella departs for the ball after the godmother warns her that the spell will expire at the stroke of midnight.

At the ball, the Prince rejects every girl, until he sees Cinderella, with whom he is immediately smitten. The two dance throughout the castle grounds until the clock starts to chime midnight. Cinderella flees to her coach and away from the castle, accidentally dropping one of her glass slippers. After the Duke tells the King of the disaster, they plan to find Cinderella with the slipper they found during her escape.

The next morning, a royal proclamation is issued, stating the Grand Duke will visit every house in the kingdom to find the girl who fits the glass slipper, so that she can be married to the Prince. When this news reaches Cinderella's household, her stepmother and stepsisters begin hurriedly preparing for the Grand Duke's arrival. Cinderella, overhearing, begins dreamily humming the song from the palace ball the previous night. Realizing Cinderella was the girl who danced with the Prince, her stepmother follows Cinderella up to her attic bedroom and locks her inside.

When the Grand Duke arrives, the mice steal the key to Cinderella's room from Lady Tremaine's pocket and laboriously drag the key up the stairs to her room, only barely managing to free her after another fight with Lucifer, in which Bruno comes to their rescue and scares the evil cat out of the house. Meanwhile, Anastasia tries on the slipper, but her foot is too big. Drizella tries on the slipper, and finds her foot is also too large. As the Duke prepares to leave, Cinderella appears at the top of the stairs, asking to try on the slipper. Knowing that the slipper will fit and that Cinderella will marry the Prince, her stepmother insists she's just a servant girl. The Grand Duke sharply reminds her that every maid is to try on the slipper. As the footman bring the slipper to Cinderella, her stepmother trips him, causing the slipper to drop and shatter on the floor. Cinderella then reveals she has the other glass slipper. Delighted at this indisputable proof of the maiden's identity, the Duke slides the slipper onto her foot, which fits perfectly.

At the wedding, Cinderella and the Prince descend the church's staircase, surrounded by confetti tossed by the King and the Grand Duke. Cinderella loses a slipper and retrieves it with the aid of the King. As the film ends on a scene of the two newly-weds kissing, the narrator concludes "...and they lived happily ever after".

Princess Pocahontas

In the beginning of the film, Pocahontas learns that Kocoum, a warrior, has asked to marry her. (In place of a wedding ring, Pocahontas is given her deceased mother's wedding necklace, and she wears it throughout the bulk of the film.) However, Pocahontas does not feel that this is the right path for her. She is the first one to spot the ship carrying the Europeans, mistaking the ship's sails for clouds. Pocahontas later encounters one of the settlers, John Smith. During the chronological timeframe of the film, it is revealed that her mother has died, and that she lives with her father.

Over time, the two get to know each other, asking all sorts of questions about each other's people, lives, and different worlds. However, the conversation goes sour when John Smith unintentionally reveals his prejudices towards Native Americans. Pocahontas explains to him the beauty and importance of nature and respecting the earth through the song, Colors of the Wind. This causes John to see the ill of his thoughts and change his ways, and the two fall in love with each other.

When Kocoum stumbles upon Pocahontas and John Smith kissing, Kocoum becomes enraged and attacks him. Before Pocahontas can break them up, Thomas, who had been sent to find John, shoots and kills Kocoum. John Smith is taken prisoner by the Powhatan men and sentenced to die at sunrise.

Pocahontas realizes that she must stop the execution that will lead to war between the Native Americans and the settlers. She runs to where it will take place, calling out to the forces of nature to help her reach them in time. Pocahontas reaches John Smith just in time to throw herself over him and save him from being killed by her father, Chief Powhatan who then comes to his senses and releases John Smith. When the enraged Governor Ratcliffe shoots at the chief, John Smith pushes Powhatan out of the way, and takes the bullet.

Soon after, a wounded John Smith asks her to come with him to England, but she explains that her place is in Virginia, with her people. To comfort him, she tells him that no matter what happens, I'll always be with you, forever. They kiss, and the men carry him onto the ship. As it is leaving, Pocahontas runs as fast as she can to a cliff overlooking the ocean. Pocahontas waves goodbye in the Powhatan fashion, and John waves back in the Powhatan fashion, like Pocahontas showed him to earlier when the two first met, as the ship sails away.

It is important to note that Jean Jacques Rousseau's notion of the "noble savage" was an important inspiration for this fictionalized story of the important historical persona that is Pocahontas. For as can be seen in other information given below, the story presented in the animated film is not an accurate telling of her life. Rather, it is an examination of the above notion. In the April 2000 edition of People Magazine, Pocahontas was named the Princess of Pop.

Princess Mulan ( The Warrior )

When the White Huns, led by the ruthless Shan Yu (Miguel Ferrer), invade China, the emperor commands a general mobilization in which each family is given a conscription notice, despite the leading General's belief that his troops can defeat the Huns alone.

Fa Mulan (Ming-Na Wen) meanwhile, is preparing for her meeting with the matchmaker to secure a marriage- the only way she can bring honor to her family ('Honor to Us All'). After a mishap involving Mulan's "lucky cricket", Cri-Kee, the matchmaker throws her from the house. Mulan returns home disheartened and ashamed ('Reflection').

As Mulan hides in the garden, her father Fa Zhou (Soon-Tek Oh), emerges and comforts her. A banging of drums announces the arrival of the Emperor's meddling and misogynistic adviser, Chi-Fu (James Hong), who brings with him a conscription notice for one man in every family. Fa Zhou, having no son to fight, is forced to enlist, despite his age and disability, and Mulan's pleadings.

That night, Mulan takes Fa Zhou's sword and cuts off her long hair. (This is incorrect; at the time, all Chinese had long hair from birth). She then takes her father's conscription notice, armor, weapons, and horse, Khan, in order to take his place. Mulan's grandmother wakes up and sounds the alarm. Mulan's mother implores Fa Zhou to go after her, fearing she will be killed, but a heartbroken Fa Zhou knows that if he reveals what Mulan has done, her sentence will be death.

Mushu (Eddie Murphy), a small dragon, has been awakened by the family's First Ancestor (George Takei). Mushu had been demoted to gong ringer after a fatal mishap. The ancestors order Mushu to awaken the "Great Stone Dragon", in order to send him after Mulan. He attempts to wake 'Stoney', but accidentally breaks him with the gong. At first Mushu panics, but quickly realises (with the help of Cri-Kee) that if he makes Mulan a war hero he will be welcomed back with open arms.

Meanwhile, Shan Yu and his army are making their way across China. They stumble across two imperial scouts. Shan Yu states that the Emperor, by building his 'Great Wall', was challenging Shan Yu's strength. He tells the scouts to return to the Emperor and tell him to send his finest army. As they run off, Shan Yu asks his archer, "How many men does it take to deliver a message?" and one scout is killed.

Mulan is practicing her male act before approaching the camp, but cannot even draw her sword without dropping it. Suddenly, Mushu appears and tells her the ancestors sent him to guide her. Despite his deception about his size, Mulan accepts Mushu's help.

Mulan thus proceeds into camp, and greets fellow soldier and 'tough guy' Yao (Harvey Fierstein) by punching him, which ultimately starts a camp-wide brawl. Chi-Fu observes the men advancing on Mulan before ducking into a tent where Captain Li Shang (B.D. Wong) and General Li (James Shigeta) are discussing battle strategies. The General tells Li Shang he is now Captain and is to stay behind to train the new troops while he attempts to stop Shan Yu at a mountain pass. Chi Fu comments that Li Shang is not experienced enough to lead the troops, but the General simply tells Chi Fu to prepare a report on the troops over their three week training course. As the General rides off with the main army, wishing Shang good luck, Shang whispers back, 'Good luck...Father.' Shang break ups the fighting, and all the men hurriedly finger Mulan as the source of the trouble. When questioned on her identity, Mulan says her name is 'Ping', the 'son' of Fa Zhou.

The next morning Mulan arrives late to training, where Shang shoots an arrow into the top of a high pole. He instructs Yao to retrieve it- but with two weights tied to his hands. All the soldiers fail to reach the arrow. Over the next weeks, the troops complete their training, and Mulan earns their respect by using her mind to reach the arrow ('I'll Make a Man Out of You').

Shan Yu has by this time reached the mountain pass, where his falcon brings him a doll. Signs on the doll show them that the Imperial Army is waiting for them in a village in the pass. The Hun archer points out it is easy enough to avoid them, but Shan Yu says the pass is the quickest way to get to the Emperor.

Mushu overhears Chi Fu and Shang arguing about the troops' readiness to fight, and decides it is time he took control of the situation. He forges a letter from the General, ordering Li Shang to meet him at the pass. The troops set out to meet General Li ('A Girl Worth Fighting For'), encouraged by the thought of beating the Huns.

When they reach the village they find it razed, and the Imperial Troops slaughtered, including the General. They pause for a moment of mourning before contiuning on towards the Imperial City.

As they journey, Mushu accidentally sets a cannon alight, giving their position away to the Huns. The soldiers fire cannons at the mountain where the Huns are. The Huns reappear on the side of the mountain bowl, and Shang orders Yao to fire the last cannon at Shan Yu. Mulan notices a precarious mound of snow on the upper mountainside, and runs with the cannon towards the approaching Huns. With Shan Yu meters away, she fires the cannon towards the mountain, causing an avalanche.

Outraged, Shan Yu slashes Mulan across the chest as his army is buried under the snow. Mulan flees, grabbing Shang as she runs. Khan breaks loose and Mulan mounts, but loses hold of Shang. Fellow soldiers Yao, Ling, and Chin Po take cover under a rock, and Mushu is tobogganing down the mountain searching for Mulan. He rescues Cri-Kee along the way, as Khan and Mulan emerge from the snow. They are near the edge of the cliff when Mulan spots Shang. Yao shoots an arrow with a rope towards Mulan without grabbing the other end. Mulan however catches it, allowing the three soldiers to pull she, Khan, Shang, Mushu, and Cri-Kee to safety. Their celebrations are interrupted by the bleeding of Mulan's wound.

During treatment, Mulan's true identity is discovered, to the shock of Shang and the troops, and the disgust of Chi Fu. Mulan tells Shang that she did it to save her father. Shang grabs Mulan's sword, and throws it down in front of her, saying quietly 'A life for a life, my debt is repaid', before ordering the troops to move out. The army leaves Mulan behind and continues on towards the Imperial City.

Mulan remains behind in the snow, and questions whether she really came for her father, or for herself. Mushu confesses that he was never sent by the ancestors, and Cri-Kee reveals he is not really lucky. Mulan decides to return home.

Overhead, Shan Yu's falcon is circling. As it dives low a hand emerges from under the snow and Shan Yu claws his way to the surface, but sees nothing left of his army. He lets out an enraged cry that not only alerts Mulan to his presence, but awakens half a dozen of his best warriors. The small group stands on the mountainside and looks down on the lights of the Imperial City, not knowing that Mulan is watching them. Seizing her sword and mounting Kahn, Mulan turns to follow them.

Meanwhile in the Imperial City the army are being celebrated, but no one except Chi Fu is enjoying the moment. Shang is shocked when Mulan rides up, but dismisses her warning. Mulan asks him why he trusted Ping but not her, but is met with stony silence.

Shang presents the Emperor with the sword of Shan Yu. The Emperor is about to accept the sword when the falcon snatches it from his hands and carries it to the roof of the palace, where Shan Yu snatches it back as his henchmen leap out of a Chinese dragon that had been part of the army's parade. They grab the Emperor and carry him into the Palace, barricading the doors.

The troops begin to ram the door with a pillar, but Mulan realizes that they will never get through in time. Yao, Ling and Chin Po follow her as she dashes around the side of the palace, where they shed their armor and disguise themselves as concubines. Shang soon joins them and they scale the wall of the palace.

The Huns have dragged the Emperor to a balcony, where Shan Yu attempts in vain to force the old man to kneel before him. Outside the door, Mulan and her trio of 'concubines' distract the guards while Mushu takes care of the falcon. Once the guards lower their defenses, the troops disarm them, allowing the still fully-armored Shang access to the balcony just as Shan Yu is about to kill the Emperor. The two begin to fight as Chin Po, Yao and Ling, with the Emperor in tow, slide down a rope to the ground. Mulan goes to follow but sees that Shang is being beaten by Shan Yu, and cuts the rope, preventing Shan Yu and herself from getting to the ground. Shan Yu is enraged and prepares to kill Shang, telling him that he 'took away (his) victory', at which point Mulan intervenes, holding up her hair to show that she is Ping.

Shan Yu advances on her and she flees. While running she meets Mushu and tells him to get to a tower filled with fireworks. Shan Yu follows Mulan to the roof. Having nothing but a woman's fan, Mulan manages to disarm Shan Yu while Mushu, positioned at the other end, lights an enormous firework. It slams into Shan Yu and carries him into the fireworks tower which explodes, while Mulan leaps from the roof and slides down a rope to safety.

Chi Fu emerges from the ruined palace, and attempts to get at Mulan, but Shang stops him, pointing out that she is a hero. Chi Fu replies she will never be worth anything. Shang loses his temper and lifts him off the ground when the Emperor intervenes. He silently waves the troops off and talks to Mulan, getting angrier with each point as he lists her crimes. 'And!' he almost yells, and Mulan winces, 'You have saved us all'. To everyone's surprise he proceeds to smile and bow to her, an incredible honor. Chi Fu and the troops quickly follow suit, and soon the entire Imperial City is kowtowing before her.

The Emperor offers Mulan a position on his council, but Mulan refuses and confesses that she wants to go home. The Emperor presents her with his crest and Shan Yu's sword. Overcome, Mulan hugs the Emperor and leaves.

Shang watches her depature, as the Emperor approaches him to say, 'The flower that blooms in adversity, is the most rare and beautiful of all.' Shang does not appear to understand this, so the Emperor simplifies it to 'You don't meet a girl like THAT every dynasty', replaces his hat and leaves.

Back at the Fa home, Fa Zhou is watching the cherry blossoms fall when Mulan enters the garden. She kneels at his feet and hands him the sword of Shan Yu and the crest of the Emperor. As she kneels, expecting a reprimand, Fa Zhou tosses the gifts to the floor and hugs her. 'The greatest gift and honor' he says, 'is having you for a daughter.' Mulan's mother and grandmother watch the scene from the gate. Though the mother is visibly pleased by the outcome, the grandmother is disappointed she didn't get a man, just as Shang appears. The stunned women point him in the direction of Mulan.

Shang is visibly flustered. Mulan offers to let him stay for dinner and Shang happily accepts Mulan's offer.

In the shrine, First Ancestor, watching the scene, agrees to let Mushu be a guardian again.

Princess Snow White ( The Fairest)

Once upon a time, as a queen sits sewing at her window, she pricks her finger on her needle and a drop of blood falls on the snow that had fallen on her ebony window frame. As she looks at the blood on the snow, she says to herself, "Oh, how I wish that I had a daughter that had skin white as snow, lips red as blood, and hair black as ebony". Soon after that, the queen gives birth to a baby girl who has skin white as snow, lips red as blood, and hair black as ebony. They name her Princess Snow White. As soon as the child is born, the queen dies.

Soon after, the new king takes a new wife, who is beautiful but very vain. She possesses a magical mirror that answers any question, to whom she often asks: "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who in the land is fairest of all?" to which the mirror always replies "You, my queen, are fairest of all." But when Snow White reaches the age of seven, she becomes as beautiful as the day, and when the queen asks her mirror, it responds: "Queen, you are full fair, 'tis true, but Snow White is fairer than you."

The queen becomes jealous, and orders a huntsman to take Snow White into the woods to be killed. She demands that the huntsman return with Snow White's heart as proof of her killing. The huntsman takes Snow White into the forest, but after raising his knife to stab her, he finds himself unable to kill her. Instead, he lets her go, telling her to flee and hide, and brings the queen the heart of a young boar, which is then prepared by the cook and eaten by the queen.

In the forest, Snow White discovers a tiny cottage belonging to seven dwarfs, where she rests. There, the dwarfs take pity on her, saying "If you will keep house for us, and cook, make beds, wash, sew, and knit, and keep everything clean and orderly, then you can stay with us, and you shall have everything that you want." They warn her to take care and let no one in when they are away delving in the mountains. Meanwhile, the Queen asks her mirror once again "Who's the fairest of them all?", and is horrified to learn that Snow White is not only alive and well and living with the dwarfs, but is still the fairest of them all.

Three times the Queen disguises herself and visits the dwarfs' cottage while they are away during the day, trying to kill Snow White. First, disguised as a peddler, the Queen offers colorful stay-laces and laces Snow White up so tight that she fainted, causing the Queen to leave her for dead. Snow White is revived by the dwarfs, however, when they loosen the laces. Next, the Queen dresses as a different old woman and brushes Snow White's hair with a poisoned comb. Snow White again collapses, but again is saved by the dwarfs. Finally, the Queen makes a poisoned apple, and in the disguise of a farmer's wife, offers it to Snow White. When she is hesitant to accept it, the Queen cuts the apple in half, eats the white part and gives the poisoned red part to Snow White. She eats the apple eagerly and immediately falls into a deep stupor. When the dwarfs find her, they cannot revive her, and they place her in a glass coffin, assuming that she is dead.

Time passes, and a prince traveling through the land sees Snow White in her coffin. The prince is enchanted by her beauty and instantly falls in love with her. He begs the dwarfs to let him have the coffin. The prince's servants carry the coffin away. While doing so, they stumble on some bushes and the movement caused the piece of poisoned apple to dislodge from Snow White's throat, awakening her. The prince then declares his love for her and soon a wedding was planned.

The vain Queen, still believing that Snow White is dead, once again asks her mirror who is the fairest in the land, and yet again the mirror disappoints her by responding that "You, my queen, are fair; it is true. But the young queen is a thousand times fairer than you."

Not knowing that this new queen was indeed her stepdaughter, she arrives at the wedding, and her heart fills with the deepest of dread when she realizes the truth.

As punishment for her wicked ways, a pair of heated iron shoes are brought forth with tongs and placed before the Queen. She is then forced to step into these and dance until she falls down dead.

Princess Belle (The Beauty)

Belle is a smart and lovely free-thinker who likes to read and go on adventures within her own imagination. She is not shy and is not afraid to speak her mind, especially in tight situations. She is very compassionate and takes care of those in need. Belle can also be stubborn, but she tries to protect people she truly loves.

Belle is a nonconformist for her time in many ways. The most pronounced is her love of books and knowledge, which the townspeople find odd for a woman. Gaston says to her at one point, "It's not right for a woman to read. Soon she starts getting ideas, and thinking...". Belle also does not care about appearances, whether they pertain to herself or anyone else. This is highly ironic, considering she is seen as the most beautiful woman in her village. In the song Belle, a woman sings, "It's no wonder than her name means beauty. Her looks have got no parallel."

Belle is a young woman living in a small French town. Her father, Maurice, on his way to a fair, goes missing. Belle rides to a mysterious castle in possibility of finding him. She finds her father locked away in a dungeon, and begs the dungeon master to free him, offering her own freedom in exchange for her father's. On the condition that she stay with him forever, the dungeon master, a hideous beast, frees Maurice from the dungeon, however he is deeply moved by her beauty and affection towards her father, and can't help but feel attracted to her boldness and bravery. Belle is originally hesitant to interact with the Beast, but after he develops a more civil manner, aided by enchanted furnishings, a bond is formed. The Beast falls deeply in love with her, but is in denial that she will ever love him in return. Belle is soon granted right to leave on behalf of her sickly father, who tries to rescue her. But after denying Gaston (a conceited guns man) her hand in marriage for a third time, a mob of villagers, led by Gaston, plots against the Beast. After a grueling tussle between Gaston and Beast, the Beast is stabbed. Gaston falls to his death when he loses balance. Belle is able to lay the Beast on a balcony, and he dies in her arms. Belle's love for the Beast revives him and releases him from the curse, and he along with his furnishings return to human beings.

Belle is one of three official Disney Princesses that was not born into royalty. The only other Disney "Princess" not to descend from royal blood is Fa Mulan and Cinderella. It should also be noted that Aladdin, Li Shang, John Smith, and John Rolfe are not all descended from royalty either although Aladdin's father Cassim is the "King of Thieves." Princess Giselle from "Enchanted" is not of royalty either, and ends up with Robert Philip in New York City as opposed to Prince Edward in Andalasia.
It is also undetermined whether or not she weds the Prince (formerly the Beast) at the end of the 1991 film. Along with Fa Mulan, she is one of the few Disney Princesses not to actually hold the title of Princess throughout each respective film. Cinderella does not start as a princess, but ends up as one after marrying Prince Charming.

Princess Ariel ( The Little Mermaid )

Princess Ariel is a mermaid and the protagonist of Disney's 1989 animated film The Little Mermaid. She later appears in the film's prequel television series, direct-to-video sequel The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea and direct-to-video prequel The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning. Ariel is voiced by Jodi Benson in all the above animated material.

The character is based on the protagonist of Hans Christian Andersen's "The Little Mermaid" story, but was developed into a different personality for the 1989 animated film adaptation. Her distinct appearance consists of long, flowing red hair, a green tail and a purple seashell bikini top. Until Giselle of Disney's 2007 film Enchanted, she was the only Disney Princess to have red hair.

A stage musical version of the 1989 film debuted in 2007, in which the "live" role was originated by Sierra Boggess.

Ariel is one of the meetable face characters at the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.

Ariel is the youngest of King Triton's seven daughters (being 16-years-old). She is shown as being adventurous and curious about the world of humans, a fascination which angers her father as merfolk are forbidden from making contact with the human world. Her best friend in the film is a fish named Flounder, and she develops a close relationship with a crab named Sebastian. Ariel salvages human items and keeps them in a secret grotto as part of her collection.

Over the course of the film Ariel saves the life of and falls in love with a human prince named Eric. She visits the sea witch, Ursula, to trade her voice for legs for three days in order to get a chance to win Eric's heart, not realising that this agreement is part of Ursula's bigger plan to trap Ariel's father, King Triton. Ariel almost manages to win the agreement by getting the "kiss of true love", but is stopped by Ursula's underhanded tactics. When the three day limit has passed, Ariel returns to mermaid form and is claimed by Ursula. King Triton trades himself for Ariel, enabling Ursula to claim the trident. In the battle that follows, Eric destroys Ursula by ramming a derelict ship's splintered prow through her enlarged torso. When the film ends, Ariel is transformed into a human permanently by King Triton's trident, and marries Prince Eric.

Ariel's theme song, which is referred to by Disney crew as the "I Want" song, is "Part of Your World", which she sings in her secret grotto proclaiming her fascination for human things. The song was originally going to be cut from the final film, due to the claim that it slowing the story down, but Howard Ashman reportedly fought to keep it in. A reprise of the song is featured a little later in the film when Ariel declares that she wants to become part of Prince Eric's world.

Theme parks

Ariel makes regular appearances in the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, having a special location called Ariel's Grotto at most of them. Ariel also makes cameo appearances in Peter Pan's Flight at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom and in It's a Small World at Hong Kong Disneyland. She also has a major role in Mickey's PhilharMagic and stars in her own live stage shows at Disney's Hollywood Studios (Voyage of the Little Mermaid) and Tokyo DisneySea (Mermaid Lagoon Theater). A dark ride based on the movie was designed for Disneyland Paris but never built, it has since been announced that a re-designed version of the attraction is to be built as part of the major expansion for Disney's California Adventure.

Disney's House of Mouse

Ariel appears as a regular guest in the animated television series Disney's House of Mouse and its specials. Her appearance alternates irregularly between her human form and her mermaid form, depending on what the situation requires. These appearances are not part of the animated film continuity. Jodi Benson continues to provide Ariel's voice in this series.

Princess Aurora ( The Sleeping Beauty )

Princess Aurora is named after the Roman goddess of the dawn "because she fills her father and mother's lives with sunshine." While still an infant, she is betrothed to the also-young Prince Phillip, son and heir to King Hubert's throne. At her christening, the good fairies Flora (dressed in red/orange), Merryweather (in blue), and Fauna (in green) arrive to bless her. Flora gives her the gift of beauty, which is described in a song as "gold of sunshine in her hair" and "lips that shame the red, red rose." Fauna gives her the gift of song. At this point, Maleficent, the film's villain and Mistress of All Evil, appears on the scene. Claiming to be upset at not being invited to Aurora's christening ceremony, she curses the princess to die when she touches a spinning wheel's spindle before the sun sets on her sixteenth birthday. Fortunately, Merryweather has not yet blessed Aurora, so she uses her blessing to weaken Maleficent's curse: Aurora will not die when she touches the spinning wheel, instead, she will fall asleep until she is awakened by true love's kiss. In addition, Aurora's father, King Stefan, orders all spinning wheels in the kingdom burned, but knowing Maleficent is extremely powerful and will stop at nothing to see her curse fulfilled, the three good fairies take Aurora to live with them in the woods, where they can keep her safe from any harm until she turns sixteen and the curse is made void. To fully protect her, they even change her name to Briar Rose.

Rose grows into a very beautiful young woman, barefoot, with long golden yellow hair, rose-colored lips, lilac-colored eyes, and a marvellous singing voice. She, although very beautiful and sweet, does not care for her appearance but she hopes that someday "her song will go winging" to a handsome man. She is raised in a cottage in the forest by the three fairies, who she believes are her aunts. Meanwhile, the evil creatures employed by Maleficent admit to their mistress that they have not been able to find the princess, despite looking in every cradle they could find. Maleficent realises that they have been looking for a baby for 16 years and sends her "last hope," her pet raven Diablo, to look for Aurora. On the day of her sixteenth birthday, the three fairies choose to use magic to make Rose a gown and a cake. As Flora and Merryweather fight it out to have the dress their signature color, Maleficent's raven flies over the forest and spots the magical glitter fluttering in the air and reports back to Maleficent. While out picking berries, Rose sings to entertain her animal friends; her angelic voice gains the attention of Prince Phillip, who has grown into a handsome young man and is out riding his horse in the woods. When they meet, they instantly fall in love. Realizing that she has to return home, Aurora flees from Phillip without ever learning his name. Despite promising to meet him again, she is unable to return, as her "aunts" choose that time to reveal the truth of her birth to her and to tell her that she is betrothed to a prince named Phillip.

They leave the woods, and Aurora makes it into the palace. Unfortunately, Maleficent uses her magic to lure Aurora away from her chambers up into the tallest tower of the palace, where a spinning wheel awaits her. Fascinated by the wheel, she touches the spindle, pricking her finger. As had been foretold by the curse, Aurora is put under a sleeping spell. The good fairies place Aurora on a bed with a red rose in her hand, and cause a deep sleep to fall over the entire kingdom "until Rose awakens." While doing so, they realize, from King Hubert trying to tell King Stefan that his son is in love with a peasant-girl, that the young man Aurora had fallen in love with is Prince Phillip. Unfortunately, he has been bound, gagged, and captured by Maleficent and imprisoned in her castle to prevent him from kissing Aurora and waking her up. The three good fairies sneak into Maleficent's lair, The Forbidden Mountain, aid the prince in escaping and explain to him the story of Maleficent's curse. Armed with the magical Sword of Truth and The Shield of Virtue, Phillip battles Maleficent when the sorceress turns herself into a gigantic fire-breathing dragon. The sword, blessed by the fairies' magic, is plunged into the dragon's heart, killing her. Phillip climbs to Aurora's chamber, and removes the curse with a kiss. As the film ends, the prince and princess both happily learn that their betrothed and their beloved are one and the same. They dance a waltz while Merryweather and Flora squabble over the color of Aurora's dress once again.

Princess Jasmine ( The Arabian Princess )

Princess Jasmine is considered a Muslim princess. Jasmine is the daughter of the wealthy Sultan of Agrabah. She is shown to be brave, intelligent, strong, independent, fiery, charitable, and can be quite cunning. Not wanting to marry any princes that her father suggests, she runs away from home. Having never been outside the palace before, she inadvertently gets into trouble, and a street urchin named Aladdin saves her. After Aladdin is arrested by guards sent by the evil vizier and sorcerer, Jafar, Jasmine assumes him to be beheaded. Later on, Aladdin, in disguise as "Prince Ali", enters and proposes to her. She initially rejects him, believing him to be just another "stuffed-shirt, overinflated" suitor, but later accepts his proposal after falling in love with him on a magic carpet ride. During this time, Jasmine sees through his disguise, but Aladdin convinces her that he dressed up as a commoner to "escape the confines of palace life." She is taken back to the palace and the two share a kiss. However, upon announcing her decision to marry Aladdin, Jafar takes over Agrabah. Jasmine is horrified as Jafar reveals that Aladdin was lying and that he was a street rat all along. After banishing Aladdin, he then makes Jasmine his personal slave. Jafar offers her a place at his side, as his queen, which she angrily refuses. Upon seeing Aladdin sneaking into the Palace, she distracts Jafar by pretending to have fallen into enchanted love with him, complimenting him and dismissing Aladdin by saying "What street rat?" When Abu accidentally knocks over a cup while trying to keep Iago quiet, Aladdin is nearly discovered by Jafar, but Jasmine stops Jafar from turning around by giving him a passionate kiss. The plan was foiled, however, when Jafar sees Aladdin's reflection on Jasmine's tiara, and attacks him. When Jasmine tries to help Aladdin to stop Jafar, the sorcerer imprisons her in a giant hourglass. Aladdin frees her moments before she would have suffocated, and defeats Jafar. With this, he has proven his worth, and the Sultan agrees to let his daughter marry whoever she wants. She naturally chooses Aladdin and they kiss as they ride into the moon on the flying carpet.

In the first direct-to-video sequel, "The Return of Jafar" (1994), Jasmine later begins to question her choice in Aladdin, wondering if he was trustworthy enough, but she quickly gets over these questions. Her part in the movie is relatively minor, though she does help to defeat Jafar for a final time. Finally, in the third direct-to-video/DVD movie, "Aladdin and the King of Thieves" (1996) she and Aladdin are finally wed. "The Return of Jafar" and "Aladdin and the King of Thieves" together serve as bookends to the animated TV series as its prologue and epilogue, respectively.

In an early draft, Aladdin and Jasmine were to meet first when Aladdin was hiding in a tree (from an angry merchant he just robbed) above the palace gardens, Aladdin knew who Jasmine was, and more importantly she was a Princess. In the end it was decided they should meet how they met in the movie (with Aladdin not knowing Jasmine was a princess until after he fell in love with her), so it would seem Aladdin would marry for love and NOT for power.

Jasmine aids Aladdin, Abu, Iago, and the Genie in their adventures. Her role is more active than in the movies and she often dons a "warrior princess" motif to the point where she has been shown as skilled even compared to a race of women warriors and can easily take on the palace guards by herself. She balances out Aladdin's brash, ready-for-action personality with a kinder, more emotionally collected one, though several plots revolve around her getting too emotional and causing trouble for it.

In the Hercules: the Animated Series episode "Hercules and the Arabian Night", Jasmine appears and responds to Philoctetes's advances

Princess Jasmine wears many different costumes throughout the movies. Her "normal" outfit, the one worn mostly during the first movie and series, is a blue bedlah outfit with long poofy bustle pants and a top which leaves her forearms and midriff bare, along with copper earrings and gold slipper-like shoes. She also has a blue headband with a sapphire. She slips out into Agrabah wearing a brown beggar's outfit with a hood. For a formal announcement, she wears a long, lilac gown. When she is Jafar's slave, she is forced to wear a red and golden slave outfit, with midriff revealing top, red pants, golden earrings and later a golden crown. At the end of the movie, she is wearing a very fancy version of her usual outfit, in a dark purple with blue cloth. In the sequel, she often wears a purple gown, as well as the usual blue outfit. In the third movie, she wears a white wedding dress. Her garb throughout the series changes, usually due to events of some sort or another. In one episode she became evil and wore a black version of her outfit with an added whip. In the Disney Store in 2007, there was a pink outfit with lace portrayed on the tag of Jasmine clothes.

Heart Evangelista

Love Marie Payawal Ongpauco, better known for her screen name Heart Evangelista, is a Filipino actress, singer, model, and VJ. She is a Star Magic Batch 9 alumna.

Childhood

Born on February 14, 1985 to parents Reynaldo and Cecilia Ongpauco, Heart is the youngest in her family, with one brother and four sisters. She grew up and studied in the United States. Her family moved back to the Philippines in her late teen years. She spent her high school years at the Colegio San Agustin, Makati.

Career

Evangelista was first discovered by a commercial agent while at a mall with her sister.[citation needed] She signed up with Star Magic (formerly known as Talent Center) and was paired with John Prats on the show G-Mik. Her team-up with John Prats gained tremendous popularity, and they starred in several movies together— Trip, Ang Tanging Ina and My First Romance. They also starred on another teen-oriented show, Berks.

Evangelista was paired with Geoff Eigenmann on the primetime soap opera Hiram which also starred Kris Aquino, Dina Bonnevie, John Estrada and Anne Curtis. She earned her a Star Awards Best Actress nomination on this series.

She later starred on the fantasy-action TV show Panday.

Evangelista also won the best new female personality (Best New Movie Actress and Best New TV Actress) awards from Star Awards for Movies and Star Awards for TV. She also won Texter's and Listener's Choice at the Himig Handog Awards for her single "Love Has Come My Way". Heart also released the single "Tell Me" in Australia. It peaked at number 18 on the charts.

Evangelista worked on and off for three years (2005-2008) and focused mainly on hosting gigs, starring on a few Maalaala Mo Kaya and Your Song episodes, and giving time to her foundation Heart Can. In early 2007, she renewed her ties with her mother station ABS-CBN and was under a per project basis. She finished a sineserye (TV series based on a film) for the station, the remake of the movie Hiram na Mukha, and appeared briefly on Pangarap Na Bituin. She also topbilled the reformatted version of Your Song under the title "Muntik Na Kitang Minahal".

She was supposed to topbill the upcoming teleserye Batingting. She was also offered to do another album under Star Records and return to ASAP but all of these she declined because she chose to transfer to GMA Network due to her father's decision.

Managed by Manila Genesis Entertainment for two years (2006-2008), she is now being managed by her father and co-managed by Annabelle Rama, Richard Gutierrez's mother.

She announced her sudden transfer to ABS-CBN's rival network, GMA Network, last April 23, 2008. She signed up a two-year exclusive contract and is now being paired with Richard Gutierrez. Their first teledrama together on GMA's upcoming drama series Codename: Asero.

Evangelista played the title role in "Ay Ayeng," a film on the indigenous Ifugao life in Mountain Province, which premiered in Hawaii, on July 14, 2008. The movie was adapted from "Maestra Ester," a novel by Abdon Noviza and Lica Lazaro.

Religious and charity work

Since 2006, Evangelista has been very vocal on her conversion from Roman Catholicism to Evangelical Christianity. She now attends New Life Christian Fellowship after initially attending at Victory Christian Fellowship. She has always stated that her conversion is the reason she moved from Star Magic (backed by ABS-CBN) to the small and independent religious/secular Genesis.

Since September 2006, she has started taking on a humanitarian role starting with the creation of Heart Can, a foundation that aims to help children with respiratory diseases. Heart Can has been taking her through a series of mall shows. So far, it has already distributed many cans for donations, raising money for the young children benefiting from the charity.

Even though her transfer from Star Magic to Genesis has caused her popularity to decline, Heart says she has no regrets because she needed the spiritual counsel that Genesis could provide her. She has also stated that she is very happy with her life, "not just working but having...living a life."
